About the team

Description

Pyrodactyl is an indie game studio that creates unconventional role playing games. We are an international team with members from India, the USA, and Canada.

History

After working on many Half Life 2 mods (such as Dystopia), Arvind Raja Yadav founded Pyrodactyl while in college. Pyrodactyl’s debut title was A.Typical RPG, a light-hearted parody of adventure games and RPGs inspired by Scott Pilgrim and negative experiences in school.

Post-release depression led to Arvind watching lots of pro wrestling on the couch, and working on Will Fight for Food – a beat ‘em up RPG in which a disgraced pro-wrestler comes to terms with the path his life has taken. The venture convinced his parents that he might make a living out of making video games. He’s since hoodwinked Adam, Mikk and Ross into joining Pyrodactyl.

Thanks to their Kickstarter backers and two years of work, Pyrodactyl released Unrest, a narrative-focused adventure RPG set in ancient India with five protagonists from various castes and backgrounds. Unrest deconstructs traditional fantasy narratives while exploring racism, social pressures and the economics of desperation. It won awards, lots of people loved it, and was Pyrodactyl’s most successful game yet.

Pyrodactyl then released Will Fight for Food: Super Actual Sellout: Game of the Hour (yes, that’s the real title), a rewrite and all-round upgrade of Will Fight for Food with the new, improved, NASSCOM-award winning team.

Soon after, Pyrodactyl teamed up with with Shamus Young on Good Robot, a shoot ‘em up + rogue-lite with procedurally generated levels and a humorous dystopian tone.

Currently, Pyrodactyl is working on The Red Stone, a turn based tactical RPG.
